She was the second child born to the late Leroy Casey and the late Martha Bennett Hampton Casey in Draper, Rockingham County, North Carolina. Edee and her family moved to Reidsville, Rockingham County, North Carolina in 1949 down from the farm of Elton "Buck" Trent, Sr. She often talked about farm life and growing up on a farm and being with her siblings. It was there; she met Adolphus Mims. He became a close friend to the family, and they later were married and had five girls: Phyllis, Patricia, Christine, Cynthia, and Edith known as Cavell.
She attended Roosevelt Elementary School and Booker T. Washington High School where she was in band for four years. Her very first job as a teenager was working alongside her mother for the Trent Family as a housekeeper. This led her to be the Nanny to the children: Elton Trent, Jr. and Frances "Plum". Plum and Edee formed a friendship that lasted for decades until Plum passed away. After her time with the Trent Family, Edee worked for over 25 years in the Textile Industry. She started with the Cone Mills Edna Plant working there until the Plant closed and later went to the White Oak Plant in Greensboro. Edee retired at 62 to care for her mother.
In 1960, before Thanksgiving, Edee gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the age of 24. She became a member of Jerusalem United Holy Church in Reidsville, NC. While on her Christian Journey, she discovered a church on 224 Pennsylvania Avenue in Reidsville, NC called Galilee Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Church and became a member in 1980 and continued being a faithful and very active member. Her activities included singing in the Senior Choir and Mass Choir and also, serving with the Missionary Board and Mother's Board. Edee would praise God at anytime and anywhere when the Spirit hit her!
Edee loved walking and enjoying nature. Her ministry was helping others in her neighborhood. She would get mail in for those who couldn't get it and take your trash can to the curb and bring it back for you. She had a green thumb for planting flowers and shrubs all in her yard. Edee was always a kind, warm, loving, and gentle woman. She didn't mind telling you that she loved you and never met a stranger.
