Reidsville – Floyd Edward Slade, Jr. departed this life on Wednesday morning, September 17, 2025. He was a native of Rockingham County, North Carolina and a resident of East Hartford, Connecticut for over 40years. Attending the local public schools, he was a graduate of BookerT. Washington High School, Class of 1955.

Following many years of laboring, he was a retiree of Connecticut General Life Insurance and East Hartford Public Works. Spiritually, he was a faithful member of Zion Baptist Church, Reidsville where he served with the Male Chorus and was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Hartford, Connecticut. “Bean”, as he was affectionately referred by family and friends, was a former member of the East Hartford Gun Club, J. P. Productions, Friends of Center Cemetery, Gospel Workshop of America, Connecticut Mass Choir under the late Rev. James Cleveland and the Interdenominational Choir under of tutelage of Rev. Ron Bigelow.

His parents, Myrtle Thomas Slade and Floyd Slade, Sr.; beloved wife, Farlina Wilson Slade; siblings, Dorothy Mae Robertson, Gordon “Clay” Slade and Edna Slade, preceded him in death. Survivors are: loving son, Kalonji Sule Slade; grandchild, Kala Slade; sister, Mamie Taylor; aunt, Annie Pearl Hamlin Johnson; special friends, Suzanne Pereira, Earl J. Robinson, Alphonsa Robinson and Bill Costen; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, from the Cornerstone Christian Center, 516 North Scales Street with Elder Clarence Robertson presiding. The family visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 until 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in the family plot of Greenview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home, Burlington.
