Joe Michael "Joseph" Broadnax, 76, transitioned into eternal rest at his home on July 17th, 2026. He was a man who never stopped learning, never stopped giving, and never stopped listening to the music of life.

A career student, Joe possessed an unquenchable curiosity. He loved the classroom so much he never really left it, earning multiple associate and bachelor's degrees in education and computer science. He channeled that immense knowledge into his true calling: serving as a passionate computer teacher at Reidsville Middle School for 25 years.

At school, Joe was legendary. He easily earned the title of "the cool teacher," but his students always knew he meant business when it came to their education and their futures. His impact, however, far superseded the classroom walls. Joe operated with a quiet, fierce generosity. In his eyes, no child was ever allowed to go hungry, and no student went without decent clothes or shoes. If a need existed, Joe quietly took care of it.

When he wasn't teaching or grading assignments, Joe lived his life to a distinct rhythm. He was an avid music lover who played a wide assortment of instruments. In his younger years, he shared his talents on stage in a band, and he later channeled that passion into entrepreneurship by owning his own club. He also enjoyed farming and beekeeping.

Joe Michael publicly proclaimed his love for God later in life and gave his life to Christ at Little Bethlehem Christian Church where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years. He also served on the board of the Reidsville Housing Authority.

Joe was reunited in heaven with his parents, Roy and Orena Broadnax; his daughters, Carol Anne Broadnax and Penelope Diane Broadnax; his son, Tiano Casey; his great-grandson, Kenzo Wyatt Reaves; brothers Winfred Broadnax, Thomas Broadnax, Kenny Broadnax, Otis Broadnax, Edwin Broadnax; and sister Betty Sudler.

To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his devoted and loving wife, Judy; his daughters, Michelle Broadnax of Greensboro and Judy Palmer (Taji) of Reidsville; his sons, Antonnyo Dickerson (Yvonne) and Joe Broadnax Jr., both of Reidsville.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashia Woodson, Peris Woodson, Tiano Casey Jr. (Brooke), Anthony Dickerson, Breanna Dickerson, Samuel Dickerson, Messiah Dickerson, Tajon Palmer, Tahmeir Palmer, Taj Palmer, Jenesis Palmer, and Judah Palmer; his great-grandchildren, Kairo Woodson, Ayla Dickerson, and Emory Woodson; his brothers, Jesse Broadnax and Ronald Broadnax (Mary); and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Joe’s unique melody will continue to play through the thousands of lives he shaped, the students he protected, and the family he loved so deeply.
