Obituary

The life and legacy of Ruby Lee Graves Hinton began on March 9,1950 and entered eternal rest on January 8, 2026. She was born to the late Nehemiah Graves and Elsie Stokes Graves. Her maternal grandparents were Alfred Stokes and Ora Estelle Simpson Stokes and her paternal grandparents were Rufus Graves and Lula Beth Williamson Graves.

Ruby was a devoted member of New Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church since childhood where her lifelong wish was to be reunited with her family.

She graduated from Caswell High School, NC Agricultural and Technical College (University) and eventually retired as a Wake County Public School Art teacher. Ruby was an avid artist and she especially enjoyed painting, drawing portraits, and crafting. Her creativity continued outside in nature where she was an excellent gardener. Neighbors and strangers often complemented her amazing yard for decades. In addition she was a writer. She authored thoughtful letters, poetry and even a children's book titled The Invisible Girl. Ruby was a renaissance woman and when she wasn't creating, she enjoyed several television networks, especially Lifetime, crime shows and the television show “Survivor”.

Ruby was skilled at using tools whether in her garden, on her house or creating a beautiful works of art. She could repurpose anything. She also had an extensive collection of books and art pieces of all kinds.

Ruby loved and enjoyed her family. She leaves to cherish her memory: One daughter; Lisa Hinton Donkor of Ruffin, North Carolina. Two sons; George Eric Hinton of Greensboro, North Carolina and Gregory Scott Hinton (Kara) of Trinity, North Carolina. One sister; Juanita Hankins (Harry) of Yanceyville, North Carolina. Two Brothers; Rufus Graves of Casville, North Carolina and Gary Lewis Graves of Ruffin, North Carolina and two grandsons; Israel Hinton and Jaxon Eric Alexander Bethea.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George D. Hinton, her brother Willie Howard Graves and her sister Ethel Ann Mims.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she loved and loved her.
