Our History

The dream of opening a family funeral home became a reality in August 1998 when Faiger Blackwell opened Blackwell Funeral Home. The five acre land site located on the north side of Burlington (corners of Rauhut Street and Sharpe Road) was purchased a year earlier in May 1997. Opening the funeral home was a way to honor our father - Roy Blackwell who worked at a neighboring firm in Caswell County most of his life. Oftentimes, he used our family car to transport families for funerals. Unfortunately, our father passed away in September 1996 before the start of construction. He never got a chance to see it, but the things that he imparted in us still lives today.

My nephew, Carl Blackwell Jr., originally was the first Licensed Funeral Director and we attended funeral service school together. Later, I quickly learned the daily operation and instilled those qualities into my son Faiger “Grea” Blackwell II who is also a Licensed Funeral Director and my daughter Alexandria Blackwell who began her apprenticeship program. Through the years locations in Yanceyville and Dunn, NC also existed. However, due to progressive growth in Burlington, and after much prayer, full attention was directed towards the original location. We are delighted that we will continue the tradition of providing professional, affordable and courteous service.

We are also honored to have an amazing and well trained staff that assists with the daily operations. We are also thankful for the vault and grave technicians, vendors and other contracted personnel. Each of them plays a vital role and we appreciate their dedication and professional attributes.
